Are you prepared for an emergency?
A flood, industrial accident, or tornado? What about a grid
shutdown- total or partial - lasting longer than a week? Are you prepared
for supply line disruptions like the ones we faced during Covid?
And what if more than one of
these occurs at once? In our highly technologic and grid dependent society, it
wouldn't take much to create a "perfect storm" of disaster.
Almost nothing in our society
functions without electricity. Stocking up on toilet paper will not protect
against plumbing and sewer line disruptions. Grocery stores generally only have
enough food for 3 days - and that estimate does not take the types of food into
consideration.
Examine your neighborhood in a six-block radius. Can you count on
Health Care centers and public buildings to be open? Do electrical or sewer or
pipefitter workers live in your neighborhood? Is there anyone in your
community that has medical or survival skills?
Do you know your neighbors? Can you identify the vulnerable
members of your community? Especially if FEMA or other Emergency Response
Networks cannot respond or are already overburdened? Where will you meet if
phones and internet go down?
Every neighborhood and community should have an evacuation plan,
an emergency meeting place, and someone locally that has the keys to the high
school gym or the library if there aren't any employees living in the
area.

LATE! MAKE A PLAN!

Can you count on your community
leaders?
Individual planning is vital, but community preparation is the
only way we will survive a serious or long-term disaster. You can have
everything you need in your basement but if it is flooded, if a tornado
strikes, you will need assistance, too. "Every man for himself"
will not always work!
Who will be in charge? Who will be responsible? Especially here in
Saint Louis city (Missouri, USA), a good portion of city employees do not live
in the city or even in Missouri.
What if there is an evacuation? Does the city have a plan for
buses or other arrangements for those that do not have vehicles or other
resources?
Does your community have relationships with local stores? (Looting
can be avoided if there is a community member who can work with the police,
National Guard, FEMA, etc., to distribute goods in stores that are useable and
keep records for reimbursement. Groceries and other necessary items should not
be hoarded in the event of an emergency.)
Every community should have an
emergency supply distribution plan that should include water, food, first aid
and medications, shelter or tents, as well as solar panels and generators for
charging devices and running heaters or fans. And a communication system that
is independent of cell phones and the internet (like HAM radios, which require
very little power).
Now is the time to talk to your
family, friends, neighbors, and your elected officials!
DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT IS TOO
LATE! MAKE A PLAN!

**TO PRINT THESE AS LEAFLETS:
MS Word, narrow margins for the page at .05, with two columns and .04 separation, and 12 point Comic Sans for most of the font- with two lines at 14 and one line at 10 point. You have to put two copies of each side on one piece of landscape oriented paper in order to get two 2-sided leaflets per page. I used my own free print credit at Saint Louis City library and some other folks used their free print allowance to print out a few more leaflets. (Comic Sans is the easiest font for people with dyslexia to read.)
If you are here looking for the book A Better World For Everyone, we will have a Gumroad site up soon. Please check back!
Want to donate to keep me out in the community talking to people about this?
If every person I talk to gives just $3 I can do this full time, five days a week. (Yes, I have to pay taxes on it, and no, you can't deduct it.)

30 July 2024 - PLEASE DO NOT USE THE BUY ME A COFFEE LINK IF YOU STILL HAVE IT! They have horrible customer service, asked me for the same info repeatedly, and then told me that they couldn't host my account! Apparently, they are not politically friendly, especially to leftists. Also, once Square takes their fees out, they are not cheaper than any other platform. Go with Patreon or better yet, Gumroad. I have cancelled with them, but the link apparently still works?!
Thank you again for your support!
